This activity is organized in the northern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is the Kasenyi plains, and it is one of the most to-do activities while on a visit to the Pearl of Africa. This involves taking a closer look at the lions, studying them, their feeding habits and behavior, plus their natural habitat.

During a lion experience, trackers go earlier ahead with researchers as you follow a pride of lions, learning about their ecology and conservation efforts. Tracking starts as early as 6:00 am in the morning, and the afternoon starts at 4:00 pm. An open-top safari vehicle is recommended during this activity, and with the help of a researcher and tracking equipment for picking up radio signals, that’s how lions can be found.

This is done under the Uganda Carnivore Program (UCP) under the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). This was started in the 1990s under the Uganda Large Predator Project. The Uganda Carnivore Project focuses on research and conservation and aims at educating communities on the importance of wildlife and how they can live in harmony with these big cats.
