Lake Mburo Walking Safari: Lake Mburo is the only national park in western Uganda where you can walk among wildlife. No vehicle, just you, a ranger, and zebras. You get off the game drive track and walk through savannah, acacia woodland and along the lake shores. It’s a home to several species, including giraffes, zebras, impalas, elephants, hippos, buffaloes, waterbuck, sitatungas, topi, antelopes, reedbuck, oribi, defassa, hyenas and leopards, among others. It’s quiet, slow, and intimate. You track footprints, learn plants, and get close to animals that ignore you when you’re walking.
Types of walks include short guided nature walks, and this takes approximately 15 minutes and is conducted near Rwonyo Park headquarters around the salt lick and lake edge. During the walk, expect to see zebras, impalas, warthogs, elands, buffaloes, bushbuck and hippos from a distance. You will be enriched with information regarding the existing wildlife, the history of the park and how it has evolved, its threats and how it has benefited the neighbouring communities. While on the walk, you appreciate the park’s remarkable views, especially the vegetation cover and the lake.
