Nyungwe is known as one of the oldest rain forests in Africa and covers an area of 1,019 dense Afro-montane forests. The canopy walk in Nyungwe forest which is one of the most done activities by tourists on their trip into the land of a thousand hills. It is 50 meters high and 200 meters long, suspended across Nyungwe Forest National Park. It is approximately 225 kilometers from Kigali, and the drive takes 4-5 hours.
Tourists should note that before entering the forest for a canopy walk, they gather at Uwinka reception for a briefing. Later embark on the journey to the forest, and here you are provided with opportunities of seeing different primates and other wildlife along the way, for example, L’hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and others. The walkway is a 3-suspension bridge between big trees, 50 m/160 ft above the forest floor. On clear days tourists can view the tea plantations, which is also a chance to take good photos because of the beautiful scenery of Nyungwe National Park.
