Things to do in Semuliki National Park
Hot Spring Experience
This is one of the major activities at Semuliki National Park, with both the male and female hot springs. The female hot spring commonly known as Nyasimbe is usually visited, and most people believe in it for rituals and healing. Pregnant women also go to the hot springs for luck. At the hot spring, one can boil eggs and other simple foods, and in a few minutes, they will be ready for eating. The male hot spring, also known as Bitete, is believed to be the husband of Nyasimbe, and most people practice different rituals to appease the spirits. A safari to Semuliki is considered incomplete without visiting the hot spring.
Nature Walks
These are conducted in the park with the help of an experienced ranger from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). During this nature walk, tourists get to see elephants, forest antelopes, chimpanzees, baboons, crocodiles, and hippos along the Semuliki River.
Community Visit
The main tribes living around Semliki National Park are the Bamba, and a visit to their community helps one to dig deeper into their cultural roots and how they have lived and survived throughout the years in and out of this forest.
Bird Watching
The park boasts over 450 bird species, and the most notable ones include the blue-billed malimbe, yellow-throated cuckoo, white-bellied kingfisher, red-rumped tinkerbird, Congo serpent eagle, and red-rumped tinkerbird, among others.
