Akagera National Park is located on the international border with Tanzania and was founded in 1934 and includes Savannah, swamp, and montane habitats. It covers an area of 1,122 square kilometers. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and African Parks Network in 2009 entered into a 20-year renewable agreement for the management of Akagera National Park.

Boat cruises
These are conducted on Lake Shakani and Lake Ihema, where clients are provided with opportunities to see water animals like hippos and crocodiles as well as other animals grazing on the shores of the lake, for example, elephants, warthogs, and buffalos, among others.
Bird Watching
With over 500 bird species, tourists interested in bird watching are rewarded with opportunities to see different birds, for example, the ring-necked francolin, Souza’s shrike, red-faced barbet, double-toothed barbet, long-tailed cisticola, African grey hornbill, and black-headed gonolek, among others.
Cultural Experience
A cultural visit to the community gives the tourist an opportunity to learn more about the people of Rwanda. Participate in community activities like beer brewing, milking, and the cow ghee making process. Also, storytelling from the elders helps one get to know about the people of Rwanda.
Sport Fishing
This is carried out on Lake Shakani, and mostly tilapia and catfish are the types of fish normally caught.
Nature Walks
These are conducted around the park with experienced ranger guides, encountering different animals during this walk.
