The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, managed by the Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development (KAFRED), is a must-visit for nature lovers and bird watchers. Located near Kibale Forest National Park, the sanctuary offers a unique opportunity to explore different areas and the region’s rich biodiversity. A guided walk through the wetlands gives the tourist a chance to spot over 200 bird species, including the iconic great blue turaco, red-chested cuckoo, and double-toothed barbet, among others. Bigodi Wetland is also a home to different primates, for example, the grey-cheeked mangabey, red colobus monkey, black and white colobus monkey, and baboons, among others. On a lucky day tourists can catch a glimpse of the elusive semi-aquatic sitatunga antelopes and chimpanzees.
